The Meaning of “Shingon”(真言) itself
Shingon(真言)
is a transcription of Sanscrit
that come from India,
a translation of Mantra.
It is a short chant made of words of truth,
preaches and praises the virtue of Buddha.
Short one is called Shingon,
and long one is called Litany (陀羅尼). .
Okanishi’s thought regarding Shingon itself
Shingon means “words of truth,
without a lie”
(There are some cases
that Buddha’s preach is called Shingon)
Since there is a thinking that sounds
in the Nature is also preach of Buddha,
bird’s singing and pleasing
wind breezes can be said as Shingon,
it can be said that words without
a lie within people is Shingon.
Being without a lie is,
a situation of an innocent soul
that cannot see things clearly
because of one’s subjectivity,
being caught by something (adhision),
or preconception.
The words made in
this situation are words without a lie.
Each one of us has own Shingon
(there is a deep thought
that each one of us has own Buddha
and each has own Shingon).
For me, Shingon is words telling a truth,
and it is a treasure
I have cherished from my youth. .
Overall view of series of Shingon Works
I was born and grew up in Tokyo,
so I got used to see the rapidly changing city
and environment.
It became more difficult to express truth immaculately because of earthly desires
and adhesion as I became an adult.
Shingon is a voice that cannot to be heard
by us who have a lot of earthly desires
and adhesion.
It is not a problem for an individual,
and for a modern society itself,
solutions to war
and environmental degradation,
we need to reconsider Shingon.
For politics,
religion and physical solutions,
the basis is Shingon that in the heart
of people’s mind.
Earthly desires and adhesion cover
and Shingon become hard to be seen.
However, to look Shingon again,
we take off and wipe.
This is the Shingon series.
