ウクライナ大使館での打合せでは、私の心に深く考えさせられる時間でした。
打合せが行われたウクライナ大使館の入り口には、戦争の現実が刻まれた写真が並んでいました。その一枚一枚には、人々の生活や苦難が込められていました。戦場で炊き出しをしている高校生や地下鉄で50日間避難していた子どもたちの姿を見るたび、涙が溢れました。
打合せ中、ウクライナから帰国したインナさんの携帯から退避アラートの知らせがあり、ニュースではなく現実のものとして私の心に恐怖が伝わりました。彼女が電車の中で感じた恐怖を聞くと、戦争の現実が身近に迫っていることを痛感しました。
日本は被爆国として、戦争の悲劇を長い年月にわたり、学んできました。学生の頃、訪れた広島や長崎を訪れた経験、また以前仕事で広島原爆資料館の方々と関わる機会がありました。戦争の恐ろしさと平和の尊さをどの国よりも痛感していると思います。しかし戦争を経験した人たちがどんどんこの世にいなくなっているのも事実です。今、遠い国の戦争ではなく、平和の大切さを考えることが何よりも重要だと感じます。
戦争が始まるとすぐに、ロシアで生まれたわけではないのに、「申し訳ない」とどんどん元気がなくなり痩せていく子どもの姿を見て、ジレンマを感じました。またウクライナから避難してきた人々との出会いから、彼らの優しさに触れ、平和の尊さを改めて感じました。
「戦争と平和」の中で、ロシアの作家トルストイは平和の重要性について深く考えさせられるテーマを探求しています。彼は戦争の非論理性と人間の自然に対する洞察を通じて、平和と調和の価値を強調しています。また、作品の中で描かれる登場人物たちの内面的な葛藤や成長を通じて、個々の人間が内なる平和を見つけることの重要性も示唆されています。

Meeting at the Embassy of Ukraine: Reflections and Hopes for Peace
The meeting at the Ukrainian Embassy was a deeply contemplative experience for me.
As I entered the embassy, I was confronted with photographs depicting the harsh realities of war. Each image told a story of hardship and struggle, from high school students serving meals on the battlefield to children spending 50 days in underground shelters. Tears welled up in my eyes as I witnessed the suffering captured in those frames.
During the meeting, we received evacuation alerts from Inna, who had just returned from Ukraine. The fear in her voice made the reality of the situation hit home. Listening to her recount her experience of fear on a train, I couldn't help but feel the proximity of war to our lives.
As a nation that has experienced the tragedy of war firsthand, Japan has learned the importance of peace over many years. I have visited Hiroshima and Nagasaki during my student days and had the opportunity to work with the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in the past. We understand the horrors of war and the value of peace more deeply than most. However, it is also a fact that those who have experienced war are gradually disappearing from this world. Now more than ever, it is crucial to reflect on the importance of peace, not only in distant lands but also in our own lives.
Seeing children who were not born in Russia but were wasting away, losing their vitality and becoming thinner and thinner as soon as the war started, filled me with a sense of dilemma. And through encounters with people who had evacuated from Ukraine, I was once again reminded of the preciousness of peace by their kindness.
In "War and Peace," the Russian writer Tolstoy explores themes that deeply contemplate the importance of peace. Through insights into the irrationality of war and his understanding of human nature, he emphasizes the value of peace and harmony. I pray from the bottom of my heart that children around the world will be able to live with smiles in a peaceful world as soon as possible. I hope for an improvement in the current situation, an end to war and conflict, a return to peace and security worldwide, and the establishment of a society where people respect and support each other.
