前回の「グリーン・イズ・ヒア」(Green is Here)に続き、
「日本料理一蓮」でのライブ動画をYouTubeチャンネルで公開しました。
2017年8月20日の下山亮平さんとのジョイントライブの定点動画が残っていたので、
小川のステージの映像を切り出しながら1曲ずつアップしています。
今回はアイリッシュジグの「Wink and She'll Follow You」とブリティッストラッドの「The Blacksmith」を
メドレーで演奏してるセットです。
どちらもトラッド界ではよく知られた曲です。
「Wink and She'll Follow You」を初めて聴いたのは英国のトラッドロックバンドのフェアポート・コンベンションでした。
ジグというダンスチューンの一種で、ポピュラーなのは8分の6拍子のダブルジグ（タタタ、タタタ）ですが、
これはちょっと変わった8分の9拍子のスリップジグ（タタタ、タタタ、タタタ）です。
ひとまとまりの3連音符が3組あり、それを大きな3拍子でとります。
なのでなんかドタドタとした独特のノリがあって面白い曲です。
「The Blacksmith」はもっと有名なトラッドで、いろんなミュージシャンがやっています。
不実な加治屋に騙された女のことを歌ってます。
もう史上の名演ではスティーライ・スパンがあって、
女の情念が冷たく淡々としたマディ・プライアによって歌われ、なんとも不気味に美しい。
他にもアイルランドのプランクシティーのアンディー・アーヴァイン、
ウェールズのファーンヒルのジュリー・マーフィーも素晴らしい。
ファーンヒルは同曲のもう一つの別の地方で採集された別旋律を挿入していてドラマ性を出しています。
ぜひ、CDなどをチェックしてみて欲しいなと思います。
そんなわけで、名演が軒を連ねている名曲なのでかなりやりにくいのですが（笑）、
大好きな曲なのでライブで時々やったりしています。
