The Emperor held important authority in Japanese history, but the length of the period which the Emperor held the actual sovereignty as the ruler is extremely short compared to the length of the period the Emperor had existed, and most of the sovereignty was held by nobilities other than the Emperor, samurai families, bureaucracy, etc.

What's up?
※ 一番カジュアルなフレーズですが、アメリカの若者はしょっちゅうこのフレーズを使います。多くの場合、このフレーズを挨拶として使っているので、「最近どう？」という意味よりは、「こんにちは」や「やぁ！」というような意味になります。ちなみに、「what's up?」に対する返事も「what's up?」、つまり、質問に質問で答えるという形になります。そして「What's up?」を速く言うと、「sup?」になるのですが、「sup？」と言うネイティブも多くいます。もちろん、このフレーズは改まった場面では使いません
