メールをあけたら、「Hello」というタイトルで、下記のようなメールが来た。
発信者はMark Rodneyなどと書いてあるが、もちろん全く知らない名前だ。

It gives me a great deal of pleasure to write you this mail and even when it might come to you as a surprise. I hope you find it of interest.
My name is Mark Rodney. I am an Auditor with a Bank here in Europe . I would like to use this means to ask your assistance in moving some funds over to your country.
I have in the course of my duties come in contact with some funds that have been inactive for some years now and careful investigation proved the original depositor of the funds died five years ago.
All attempts to reach the suppose beneficiary of the deposit were fruitless and before it is forfeited to the state, I will like to move it outside now and this is were I need your assistance.
I look forward to hearing from you and my gratitude for your patience

一目で詐欺（犯罪）目的だとわかる。
昔働いていたある国際法律事務所では、外国人客むけに、英語版のタウンページにその事務所の広告を出していた。
ある日、ナイジェリアという遠い国から、事務所あてにエアメールが届いた。見ると、
「私はナイジェリアからこの手紙を出している。実は、本国にX億ドルの資産を持っている。しかし、本国から私は直接海外に送金できない。つきましては、貴殿の銀行口座と預金通帳を貸してくれないか。御礼はする」
という内容だった。弁護士事務所の先生に見せたところ、
「ああ、これを信じたバカな日本人が本当にナイジェリアに行って、身ぐるみはがされて捨てられたそうだよ」
と教えてくれた。英語版タウンページにある日本の事業所に、片っ端から手紙を出していたらしい。
そして、手段は、エアメールからEメールに変わっただけだが、相変らず同じ詐欺を働こうとしている輩がいるものだ。
アメリカ人の夫にこのメールを見せたら、
「ああ、この手のメールは多いよ。多くはナイジェリアから来るんだ」
と言う。やっぱりナイジェリアか。夫も知っていたくらいだから、アメリカでもありふれた詐欺なのだろう。
「しかし、どうして私のメールアドレスを知ったのかしら」
と聞くと、
「それは、ハッカーがサーバーに侵入したり、業者から買ったり、いろいろ手段はあるさ」
と言う。いやな話。
とにかく、皆様のところにこのようなメールが来ても、絶対相手にしないようにお願いします。
