Hello![]()
My name is Nao Adamson,
a Japanese essayist writing about international marriage.
Last Sunday on 17 June was Father's Day.
Did you give a present to your father?
My darling and I usually buy clothes for our fathers.
For example, this year we sent a long-sleeved shirt
to my darling's father living in Engiand
because it is relatively cool
during summer time in Britain.
Then we selected a short-sleeved polo shirt
to my father in Nagano.
Speaking of Father's Day, according to the news on TV,
neckties used to be the most popular presents in Japan.
However, due to the government's policy of saving energy,
people tend not to wear ties these days. ![]()
Instead, clothing industry started to have a campaign
to sell suteteko.
Do you know what this is? ![]()
Suteteko is long under-pants
which is around knee-length.
It is roomy and made of cotton,
so seems to be cooler than normal underwear.
I wonder how many people bought
suteteko for their fathers this year. ![]()
