No way! It looks like it’s about to go. We should hike down into the valley instead.

Duncan: 下りて行ってから、また上り直さなければならないよ。

We’ll have to hike down and then climb up again.

Sensei: So, could you explain the situation here? 
Chris, Well, if you say, “the engine is gone”, it’s basically damage beyond repair. You know, bye-bye engine.

“go”は「出て行く」だけでなく、「進んで行く」も含みます。

How was your new job going? 新しい仕事はどんな感じ？
How’s it going? 調子どうですか？

Sensei: So, any different from “How ae you?”
Chris: Well, obviously it’s the same meaning, but what I like to tell my student is “Don’t be satisfied with just one way of saying something”, “Add some variety”. So, “how’s it going” is such an expression, Roza?
Roza: Yeah. And it’s also a bit more cool and casual.
Chris: Exactly, yeah.

電球が切れちゃったよ。
The light bulb is gone.
Sensei: So, is there any difference between “has gone” and “is gone”?
Chris: I think there is some difference. If we use “is”, you’re really focusing on the state of the light bulb as it is now. So, the light bulb is gone. Whereas, if we use “has gone”, as we say many times the present perfect links the past with the present, so it focuses a little bit more on the process leading to the present condition.

Chris: Absolutely, no problem.

Sensei: What did you do, Chris?
Chris: Well, you know, turn on the charm, charm is a little bit like magic, so I turned my magic switch on and I just smiled her, complimented her and little by little she changed and began smiling all the time.

Roza: Sure. Well, “made” is exactly what it says, “I made lunch” so maybe I got some bread, some cheese and made sandwiches for lunch.
Chris: So, basically you stayed at home and you did it yourself, right?
Roza: That’s right.
Chris: Whereas, “I got lunch” implies you go somewhere, got that the whole process involved, so you go out and you buy, and then eat it.

Chris: Well, “clients”, we would use this word normally when we’re talking about a business relationship, could be, for example, seeing a lawyer. And “customers”, Roza? 
Roza: Well, “customers” is very common when we’re talking about someone who visits a store so that would be a customer coming into a store.

Sensei: So, what do you usually have at a sushi bar?
Roza: Oh, well, I just love Uni. What about you, Sensei?

Chris: Hi, how are things?

Roza: Did you hear that Misonikomi Hotel is being renovated? It’s still under construction now. I know a hotel that is famous for its misokatsu, but I prefer misonikomi udon. I’m afraid we need to put off our trip to Nagoya.

Did you hear: 聞いて、知っていますか？

Roza: Hi, how are things?

Chris: We were planning to stay at Misonikomi Hotei, but it is currently under renovation. Nagoya is famous for misonikomi udon noodles and we were really looking forward to eating them at that hotel. But it looks like we’ll have to put off our trip until later time.

Chris: Hey, guys. I have a story that combines this key phasal verb “put off” and Greece. Do you wanna hear it?

Roza: Sure.

Chris: Well, quite a number of years ago, I traveled down to London. And I was heading off to a beautiful Greek island. But somebody stole my wallet and stole my passport and my credit cards, everything.

Roza: Oh, no!
