【スコットランドに伝わる歌】
スコットランドは、
「ハイランド地方」と、
「ローランド地方」に
分かれています。
「プレイド」というのは、
タータン柄の大きな布の
ことでしたが。
そのタータン柄を
クランの紋章のように使ったり、
キルトを履いたりする文化は。
ハイランド地方のものです。
そして。
イングランド色に染まった
ローランド地方では、
英語を話す人が
ほとんどでしたが。
ハイランド地方では、
ゲール語が話され。
ケルト的な文化が
まだ色濃く残っていました。
カローデンの戦いまでは。

ケルト民族は。
カエサルをはじめとする、
ああいう一部の「有名人達」の
言葉によって。
歴史の中では長いこと、
野蛮人扱いされてきていました。
スコットランドでも
ハイランド地方は、
ローランド地方の
人達からは、
「蛮族」
・・・という風に、
見られていたことも
あったそうです。
なんだか。
日本の歴史でも
そうでしたが。
新たな民族が侵入してきて、
その地を征服すると。
そこにもともと
住んでいた人達は。
「蛮族、未開人」
・・・とされ。
いつも。
島の端っこのほうに、
追いやられるのですよね。
縄文人が東北へと追いやられて、
「蝦夷」と呼ばれたように。
南に追いやられて、
「熊襲」と呼ばれたように。
そして彼ら独自の文化は。
「野蛮なもの」
・・・と決めつけられる。
うーん。。。
どっちが
野蛮。なのでしょう？
「18世紀末から19世紀にかけて
ロマン主義者がハイランドの
歴史と文化を喧伝し、
美化された『高貴な未開人』の
イメージを広めたことで
ハイランド・ブームが起こった」
・・・と、ウィキには
書かれていましたが。
これもまた、
同じですね。
昨今の日本で起こった、
「縄文ブーム」と。

『The Wind Hath Blown My Plaid Away』
・・・という
ブロードサイド・バラッド。
この、
この歌のリフレインは。
「Ba, ba, ba, lilli ba」
・・・でしたが。
これにはほとんど、
意味はないのだそうです。
ただ。
スコットランドの人達が歌う
『妖精の騎士』のリフレインには。
「Blaw, blaw, blaw winds, blaw」とか。
「Blaa, blaa, tear da wind, blaa」とか。
・・・が、使われているものもあり。
それらは、
「風が吹いてくる～」
・・・と、繰り返している
感じなので、
このリフレインを
聴いているうちに、
「風」
・・・が意識にのぼってきます
「Ba, ba, ba, lilli ba」では。
日本人の私には、
「風」はなかなか、
思い浮かびませんが。
もしかすると、
スコットランドでは
違うのかな？
その地独特の
メタファーみたいなものが
あったりするのでしょうか？
「Blaw, blaw, blaw winds, blaw」
・・・と聞いた時、
日本の歌の。
「♪北風ぴいぷう吹いている～♪」
・・・が、
浮かんだりもしました。
このバラッドの
リフレインは。
その「ぴいぷう」と同じような、
「風の音」の表現。
・・・に見えたりもしました
