・１９９１年にソ連邦から独立した中央アジアの国で、イラン、アフガニスタンの北に位置し、カスピ海に面する。
天然ガスが豊富に採れ、世界第４位の埋蔵量を誇る資源大国であるが、政治は個人崇拝によるニヤゾフ大統領の独裁体制が敷かれており、「中央アジアの北朝鮮」と呼ばれる。
ニヤゾフ大統領は憲法を改正し、首相を兼任するとともに、自らを終身大統領と定めている。 また、徹底した言論統制が敷かれており、「世界の報道自由度ランキング」では、最下位の北朝鮮に次いで、もっとも言論の自由がない国として指摘。
首都では約５０ｍごとに大統領の銅像や肖像が設置され、自らの著書は聖なる書として、国民全員が持たなければいけない等、その独裁ぶりは顕著である。
個人的には、非常に興味を持っている国です。 と言うのも、この国には伝説的なお馬さんがいるんですよ。

Japanese superstar Deep Impact signed off his racing career in style with an impressive success in the Grade One Arima Kinen at Nakayama racecourse on Sunday.

In front of a huge crowd， Deep Impact was settled towards the rear of the field as Admire Main set the early pace， with Take only beginning to make his move as the field turned for home.

He hit the front a furlong from home and Take eased the son of Sunday Silence in the final strides to notch a three-length win over Melbourne Cup second Pop Rock.
