My first son, born in May 2005, has finally left the nest.

In the U.S., most students who go on to college are forced to live in dormitories, so they plan to leave their parents when they graduate from high school.

My oldest son, who is not particular about his belongings, had to carry this.

We drove five hours to Boston to see him off for the last time.

I looked at his dorm room and found it was full of things he didn't have,

We bought a simple refrigerator at a local supermarket, and that was the end of it.

The next day, we got caught in a heavy traffic jam on the way home, and it took us eight hours to reach there.

Families change little by little. That's fine.
