拙著を原作としたミュージカル舞台「SERI 〜ひとつのいのち」上演から１年強。
2023年12月11日、ニューヨークマンハッタンにある会場で、
舞台動画のプレミア上映会が開催された。
まだコロナ禍の影響が大きく残っていた昨秋の東京＆大阪上演。
たくさんの皆様が会場にお越しくださったけれど、それでも伝え足りなかった。
もっと多くの方にメッセージを届けておきたかった。
何よりも、ストーリーが起こった土地、ニューヨークの皆様にお伝えしたかった。
舞台だからこそ、たくさんの脚色とたくさんの演出が加えられているとはいえ、
「ひとつのいのち」の重みを伝えるメッセージと、作品の持つ力に圧倒された。
秀作であっても宣伝力がないと埋もれてしまうこの業界で何ができるのか。
プロデューサーとクリエイター陣のお力添えと秀逸な英訳チームが一丸となり、
ようやく企画が具体的になったのは、今年の夏、暑さ真っ盛りの頃だった。
余計な言葉はいらない、とにかく作品を観ていただきたい。
感じたことをそのまま静かに持ち帰り、そして誰かに伝えていただきたい。
そんな想いを貫いた企画。
ほとんどの人が知らないストーリー、168席もの集客ができるのか。
告知当初の反応は小さくて、不安がいっぱいだった。
しかし徐々に、新たに力を貸してくださる方が少しずつ集まって、
さらには日本から大きな声で支援してくださる方のお力もあって、
ホリデーシーズンど真ん中の月曜日、マンハッタンのスカンジナビアハウスに、
たくさんの方がお越しくださった。
途中、上映が切れるというテクニカルアクシデントが発生したにも関わらず、
皆様最後までしっかり御鑑賞いただけたことに、心から感謝するばかり。
お越しくださったすべての皆様とお話しすることはできなかったけれど、
この場を借りて、改めて御礼を申し上げます。
知らないことを知ること、想像してみること。
塀の向こう側にある話の入り口を、少しだけ開けていただくこと。
「ひとつのいのち」には上下も優劣もなく、みんな同じいのちであること。
完璧じゃないから、補い合って、世界がまわっていること。
そんなメッセージを、一緒に伝えていくために。

It has been a little over a year since the musical stage production "SERI - One Life," based on my book, was performed.
On December 11, 2023, the premiere screening of the stage movie was held at a venue in Manhattan, New York.
The Tokyo and Osaka productions were staged last fall when the effects of the Corona disaster were still very much in evidence.
Although many people came to see the performance, we could not convey the message to enough people.
I wanted to deliver the message to more people.
Above all, I wanted to tell the story to the people of New York, the place where the story took place.
Even though it is a stage production with many adaptations,
I was overwhelmed by the message of the weight of "one life" and the power of the work.
What can we do in this industry, where even an excellent work can be buried without the power of publicity?
With the help of the producers and creators and the excellent English translation team,
it was during the height of the summer heat this year when the project finally took shape.
We don't want to say too many words, we want you to see the film.
We want you to see the work, quietly take home what you feel, and tell someone about it.
This is the project that carried out such a desire.
The story was unknown to most people, and we wondered if we could attract as many as 168 seats.
When we first announced the project, the response was small and anxious.
Gradually, however, new people who were willing to lend their support began to gather,
And then, we had the help of a loud supporter from Japan,
many people come to the Scandinavian House in Manhattan on Monday during the holiday season.
Despite a technical mishap during the screening, everyone was able to enjoy the film until the very end,
We want to thank everyone who came to see the film sincerely.
Although I could not talk to everyone who came, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again.
To know what you do not know, to imagine what you can imagine.
To be able to open a little bit of an entrance to a story that is on the other side of the fence.
"One life" has no superiority or inferiority and is the same for everyone.
We are imperfect, so we complement each other, and the world revolves around us.
We are working together to convey this message.
