宮嶋みぎわさんが在米10周年を記念して、コンサートを開催。
周囲には20年以上在米しながら活躍の幅を広げている仲間が少なくないなか、
たった10年でこれほどの実績を積んできたアーティストは、滅多にいないだろう。
大学卒業後、リクルート社で「じゃらん」の編集デスク担当という経歴を持ち、
音大出身ではないけれど、好きな音楽で身を立てようと、NYで挑戦を始めた。
あっという間にジャズ界でビッグバンドを率いる総合ミュージシャンとして台頭。
音楽業界に疎い私にも、その評判はいろんな風に乗ってやってくる。
ディメンナセンターで開催された10周年コンサートは、
サックス奏者のSteve Wilson氏、和太鼓のMidori Larsen氏、殺陣師香純恭氏、
カルテットグループKYMNなど、豪華なゲストが色を添えた充実のプログラム。
演者も聴衆も「ミギワ応援団」で埋め尽くされた空間。
満面の笑みで堂々とスピーチするみぎわさんの貫禄、この先の10年でさらなる
進化をしていくみぎわさんの未来に、たくさんの光が訪れますように。
Migiwa Miyajima held a concert commemorating her 10th anniversary of moving to the United States.
While more than a few friends around us have already been living in the U.S. for over 20 years, it’s a rare thing to find an artist who has achieved so much in a mere decade.
After graduating from college, she worked at Recruit Co. as an editorial desk clerk for "Jaran" (a Japanese magazine).
Although she did not graduate from a music college, she loved music dearly, and took on the challenge of making a name for herself in New York.
In no time, she emerged as a wide-ranging musician leading a big band in the jazz world.
Although I am unfamiliar with the music industry, even I have heard whispers on the wind of her reputation.
The 10th-anniversary concert was held at the DiMenna Center.
The program was filled with all varieties of guests, such as saxophonist Steve Wilson, taiko drummer Midori Larsen, sword fighter Kyo Kasumi, and the quartet KYMN.
The space was filled with "Migiwa supporters" among both performers and the audience.
Beaming a bright smile, Ms. Migiwa gave a dignified speech outlining her intent to continue evolving over the next decade.
I wish that Ms. Migiwa’s future path will be lit with the lights of good fortune.
