ニューヨークに留学生としていた時代から、家族ぐるみでお付き合いしている親友がいる。
当時、御主人の社会人留学に同伴し、その後彼らは日本やイタリア在住を経て、
再びニューヨークに戻ってきた時には、４人家族になっていた。
子供たちの年頃もほぼ同じで、一緒に旅行をしたり、誕生日を祝ったり、
他に家族のいない私たちにとっては、とても心強い存在だった。
一昨年、彼らは日本に拠点を移したけれど、御主人の仕事はワールドワイド、
アメリカの大学に進学した長女の訪問もあるので、シーズンごとに再会できるのは嬉しい。
冷たい雨の降る冬の再会は、共通の友人も呼び出して、ブラジル料理のお店へ。
私の知らないメニューを、サクサク注文する友人らが頼もしい。
次に再会できるのは、夏頃になるのかな。
I have a good friend who has been a family friend since my days as an international student in New York.
At that time, she accompanied her husband when he studied abroad, and after that, they lived in Japan and Italy.
When they returned to New York, they were a family of four.
The children were about the same age, and we traveled together, celebrated birthdays, and had much fun.
They were very encouraging to us as we had no other family.
The year before last, they moved to Japan, but her husband's work is worldwide.
We are happy to see them again every season when they visit their eldest daughter, who has gone to college in the U.S.
We met again in the cold rainy winter with mutual friends and went to a Brazilian restaurant.
I was pleased that my friends quickly ordered from the menu, which I did not know about.
I wonder if we will be able to meet again in the summer.
