近所に住む幼なじみと、家の前の舗装道路にチョークで絵を描くのが楽しかった。
家の平面図を描いて、理想の部屋に住んでいる気持ちを想像して遊んだ。
20年以上前、ニューヨークでインテリアデザインの勉強をしていた当時、
課題制作に追われるなかで、お気に入りのインテリア雑誌を眺めるのが唯一の息抜きだった。
いつだって、こんな空間に住んでみたいという憧れがある。
現実の生活は、家族で手狭な部屋と溢れるモノたち、IKEAの家具に囲まれているけれど。

「ゲストをお迎えするエントランスにキッチンを配する」という画期的なリノベーション。
宮崎在住のシェフたちが駆けつけて、新鮮な食材が次々とふるまわれた。
オーナー御夫妻の素敵なおもてなしと、ゲストの方々の素敵なお話に、
本当に素敵な時間は、素敵な空間から生まれるのだなと痛感した。
家に帰ったら、もう少し断捨離をしよう。
残りの人生で、本当に必要なものは、もう限られている。
I enjoyed drawing chalk pictures on the paved road in front of my house with a childhood friend who lived nearby.
We drew floor plans of the house and played with imagining how it would feel to live in our ideal room.

It was a groundbreaking renovation that "placed the kitchen at the entrance to welcome guests.
Chefs living in Miyazaki were on hand to serve fresh ingredients.
The tremendous hospitality of the owner and his wife, and the beautiful stories of the guests, made for a truly wonderful time.
I realized that a truly wonderful time is born from a beautiful space.
When I go home, I will do some more decluttering.
There is only so much I need for the rest of my life.
