トシ・カプチーノ氏のキャバレーショーは、カルチャーショックだった。
一人何役もの演出をしながら、歌とトークで観客を一気に引き込む魔法。
以来、20年以上に渡って、彼のショーを観劇させていただいている。
コロナ禍で大打撃を受けたニューヨークのエンタメ業界だけれど、
トシさんは、いち早くオンラインショーを企画開催して、私たちの心に希望を与えてくれた。
6月初旬、２年半ぶりにフィジカル開催されたショーは、全編英語の企画であったため、
私たちを除き、ほとんどの客席がアメリカ人で埋め尽くされていた。
米国で開催される日本人主催のエンタメ企画は、日本からの追っかけファンなど、
日系人で客席がいっぱいになる場合が多いけれど、トシさんは別格だとつくづく思う。
日米カルチャーの違いをネタにしたトークを盛り込みながら、
どんな世代でも受け止めやすい歌唱を次々にお披露目して、あっという間の70分。
ショーを終えた翌々日、彼は日本での凱旋公演のため飛行機に飛び乗った。

When I first came to the U.S., I only knew the "Moulin Rouge" in Paris.
Toshi Cappuccino's cabaret show was a culture shock for me.
He is a magician who plays several roles and draws the audience in at once with his singing and talk.
I have been seeing his shows for more than 20 years since then.
The entertainment industry in New York City has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Toshi was one of the first to organize an online show, giving us hope.
In early June, the first physical show in two and a half years was held in English.
It was entirely in English, so most seats were filled with Americans, except ours.
In some cases, Japanese entertainment events in the U.S. are filled with Japanese, such as fans chasing after the show from Japan.
However, Toshi was in another class as an American.
He sang songs that could be readily accepted by any generation while incorporating talk about the differences between Japanese and U.S. culture.
The 70 minutes went by in a blink of an eye.
After the show, he boarded a plane for his triumphant return to Japan.
