東日本大震災が発生した時、国を守る16,000人の総指揮にあたられた偉人。
元海上自衛隊横須賀地方総監、高嶋博視氏。
2014年に御著書「武人の本懐」を上梓された時、外国人記者クラブで会見された。
「どなたか、この本を英語で伝えていただけませんか」
長きに渡る想いを、御本人からお伺いしたのが、2020年秋のことだった。
私自身も、自分の経験を英語で世界に伝えたいと動いていた時だから、
それを伝えるべき理由があるからには、是非とも御尽力させていただきたいと申し出た。

2022年３月11日。
東日本大震災から11年目に、ようやく英訳本が完成した。
新型コロナ感染症対策をしながらの、完成報告会の開催。
約30名と規模は小さかったけれど、心温まる機会となった。
あの時の記録を公開するのは、過去からの学びが、この先の命を守りうるから。
タイトルに込められたメッセージは、世界に向けた心からの叫び。

When the Great East Japan Earthquake struck, a great man was in command of 16,000 people protecting the country.
He was Mr. Hiromi Takashima, former Commandant of the Yokosuka District, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
When he published his book "Bujin no Honkai" in 2014, he held a press conference at Japan's Foreign Correspondents' Club.
He asked, "Could someone please convey this book in English?"
In the fall of 2020, I heard from him about his long-held desire.
It was when I was moving to share my experiences with the world in English.
I offered to do my best to help them because they had a good reason to tell their story.

March 11, 2022.
Eleven years after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the English translation of the book was finally completed.
A debriefing session on the book's completion was held while taking measures against the COVID-19 infection.
Although the size of the event was small (about 30 people), it was a heartwarming occasion.
We are publishing the record of that time because learning from the past can protect lives in the future.
The message in the title is a heartfelt cry to the world.
"THE HEART OF A SAILOR. "
