ここでは「メリークリスマス」とは言わない。
「ハッピーホリデー（素敵な休日を）」なら、どんな宗教の人にも通用する。
この２週間で、コロナ感染者が爆発的に増えているけれど、
バイデン大統領は「ワクチン打って、予定通りの休日を過ごして」と発信している。
年末恒例、タイムズスクウェアのカウントダウンは、
コロナ禍前の４分の１、１万５千人に限定して実施されることが発表された。
ニューヨークは壮絶だ。２０２０年の悪夢が蘇る。
それでも、ニューヨークは負けないと信じたい。

We don't say "Merry Christmas" here, but "Happy Holidays" to people of all religions.
There has been an explosion of COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks in New York.
But President Biden is sending out the message, "Vaccinate and have a happy holiday as planned.
New York City announced that the annual countdown in Times Square would be limited to 15,000 people, a quarter of the number before the corona outbreak.
New York is back to the pandemic, and the nightmare of 2020 is back.
Still, I want to believe that New York will not be defeated.
