私の友人も、多くがニューヨークを離れていった。
以前は１年の半分をニューヨークで過ごしていた親友が、
今年は２ヶ月程しか戻ってこないという。
隙間時間を合わせて、彼女と近所の隠れ家へ。
マンハッタンで珍しく、ヨーロッパの雰囲気を味わえるノイエギャラリー。
併設のカフェサバルスキーは、近所に住む老婦人たちでいつも溢れている。
ここに来ると、学生時代に他界した親友を思い出す。
彼女が大好きだったクリムトの絵画が、たくさん所蔵されている。
コクのあるチョコレートケーキ、苦めのコーヒー。どれも大人っぽい。
いつも背伸びばかりしていた彼女の気持ちが、今ようやく少し分かる気がする。
