難病を患った一人の主婦が、立ち上げたアートプロジェクト。
2013年に他界した稲森紀子さんの遺志を継いで、公演を続けるグループが
ニューヨーク公演にやってきた。
初めてのアートに触れる時、私はなるべく予習をしない。
先入観なく、まっさらな気持ちでどう感じるかを、大事にしたいから。
911をテーマにした「Firefighters」という芝居は、
正直言って、あまりに胸が苦しかった。
ニューヨーカーにとって、身近過ぎるテーマ。
この題材を日本人が演じることに、違和感があったのかもしれない。
個人のレベル差が大きい英語セリフで、全体のテーマが霞んでしまう。
日本語で真っ直ぐに演じた上で、字幕テロップが流れたら、
もっと、伝えたいことが、伝わるのかもしれない。
後半の和太鼓や、音楽劇は、純粋に楽しむことができた。
今回が初披露目という「UNIFICATION」も、
大人数で迎えるフィナーレも、「市民の力」を感じるパワーが溢れていた。
プロ集団ですら、ニューヨークで公演することは困難極まりないのに、
ほぼボランティアで運営されている100名以上のグループが、
こうして海を越えて活動されていることは、本当に誇らしい。
「愛と平和」を唱えることに、国境はない。
今自分が出来ることは何だろうかと、会場に足を運んだ皆が考えただろう。
考える機会をもたらすことが、何よりの成果だから。

An art project, IAPG, was launched by a housewife who suffered from an incurable disease.
The team of Noriko Inamori, who passed away in 2013, continues to act.
They came to New York to perform the play.
I try not to prepare when I encounter art for the first time.
Because I want to value how I feel without preconceptions and with a pure heart.
The play "Firefighters" is based on the theme of 911.
It was too painful for me.
It is a subject that is too familiar to New Yorkers.
Perhaps I felt uncomfortable that a Japanese person was acting in this play.
The English dialogues, which differed significantly from one person to another, blurred the overall theme.
It would have been better if the actors had acted straight in Japanese and shown the subtitles on the screen.
I think it would have been easier to convey what they wanted to say.
I genuinely enjoyed the Japanese drumming and the musical drama in the second half.
I also enjoyed the performance of "Unification," which was performed for the first time.
The finale, which a large group of people performed, was filled with the power of the citizens.
It is challenging for even a professional group to perform in New York.
I am proud that this group of more than 100 people, run mainly by volunteers, is working across the sea.
There are no borders when it comes to advocating "love and peace.
I am sure that everyone who came to the event thought about what they could do now.
Bringing about the opportunity to think is the best outcome of all.
I hope that IAPG (Inamori Art Project Group) will continue to grow.
Beyond the sea, we will support them.
