長男が生まれた頃、私たちはソーホー地区に住んでいた。
流行発祥の地、アートギャラリーに囲まれる幸せ。
でも、石畳の道路ではべビーカーを押せないし、
働くママの味方、デイケア（保育園）情報も驚くほど少なかった。
子育てする環境からは程遠い場所だと見切りをつけて、
今住んでいるアップタウンに引っ越してきた。
取材の仕事でもなければ、街の変貌を体感する機会は少ない。
たまに歩くと、毎回新しいお店に出会う。
観光客も多く、以前のような「地元らしさ」は薄れてしまったけれど、
それでもやっぱりクールな街だなと改めて思う。
ちょっと路駐した時に、マイカーのガラスを割られた裏通りにも、
今は流行りのホテルが建てられて、オシャレな人が行き交っている。
そして流行りのケーキ屋さんは、
やはり「インスタ映え」することが大前提。
レインボーカラーのケーキが大流行しているなんて、
日本人の感覚では、ちょっと信じられないけれど。
ニューヨーカーは、「可愛い派手」が大好きなのだ。
When my eldest son was born, we lived in the Soho district.
I was happy that I was surrounded by art galleries, in the birthplace of fashion.
But I could not push a baby stroller on a cobbled street.
As a working mom, Day care (nursery school) information was surprisingly little.
Since it was not the environment to raise children,
we moved to Upper East Side where we live now.
Unless I have a chance of magazine shooting, there are few opportunities to experience the transformation of Soho area.
When I stop by there, I meet new shops every time.
There are also many tourists, the "taste of local" like the previous one has faded away.
But I feel that it is still a cool city.
Even in the back street where my car's glass was broken when I parked for a short time,
A fashionable hotel has been built now, and fashionable people go and go.
And a popular cake shop,
After all it is a major premise to be "Instagenic".
Rainbow color cake is prevalent,
I cannot believe it with a sense of Japanese people.
New Yorker loves "Cute & Gorgeous".
