日本航空は、７年前に民事再生法の適用を受けて以来、
５年間、新規路線の開発を制限されていた。
その制限が解けた4月1日、39年ぶりに羽田—NY路線が復活した。
JALニューヨーク支店から、就航セレモニーの企画依頼を頂いたのは、
旧暦正月の頃だったろうか。
国内外で活躍する日本人を、非日系人に紹介する絶好の機会。
「アイキャッチになる、今までにやったことのない企画」に、
いろんな提案が飛び交った。
「空港ゲート内」企画の難関は、
イミグレとセキュリティー検査を抜けるという条件が付く。
予算や物理的制限の多いなかでも、たくさんの人達が協力してくれた。
出発前の飛行機が背景にあるという最高のシチュエーション。
関係者と御来賓の御挨拶に続き、テープカットが行われる。
たくさんのメディアと数百名の搭乗客が見守るなか、
「７本指のピアニスト」としても知られる西川悟平氏が
「プレリュード」と「コンテパルティーロ」の２曲をお披露目した。
空港内の喧騒とした雰囲気をも想定していたが、
そこにいた誰もが息を飲んで、西川氏の演奏に聴き入っていた。
「搭乗前の時間をこんなに有意義に過ごせたのが幸せだった」
居合わせたTV FOXのプロデューサーが、興奮して伝えてくれた。
お客様の嬉しそうな笑顔こそが、イベント成功の醍醐味だと感じた。
羽田に向けて出発した機体を、空港の皆で見送った。
空の旅には、たくさんのストーリーがある。
かつてのフライト時代に体感した「一話ごとの達成感」を、久しぶりに堪能した。
安全運航に願いを込めて、また新しいストーリーを紡いでいこう。

空港セキュリティーをパスできるサイズのなかで、
最高のアップライトピアノを選んでくださったピアノ屋のオーナー。
彼女の御協力なくしては、今回の企画は実現できなかった。
クララ・シューマンが生涯愛したというグラトリアンのピアノは、
年間たった500台しか生産されない秀逸品。
深くパワフルに響きわたる音色に、空港中の人々が聴き入っていた。

Many people cooperated in budget and physical restrictions.
The venue was the best situation that the plane before departure was
in the background.
Following the greetings of Airlines people and guests, the ribbon cutting was done.
With many medias and hundreds of passengers watching over,
Mr. Gohei Nishikawa also known as "Pianist of 7-fingers" played two music
"Prelude" and "Con te partiro (Time to say goodbye)”
It was supposed to be a hustle and bustle event in the airport,
Everyone was in silence, and was listening to Mr. Nishikawa's performance.
"I was verry happy that I could spend such a precious time before boarding."
A producer of TV FOX came excitedly told me.
I felt that the customer's happy smile was the real pleasure of event success.
All staff at the airport watched the plane leaving for Haneda.
There are many stories in sky journey.
I felt the sense of "accomplishment of each episode" that I felt in the era that
I was co-worker of JAL.
Hoping the safety of sky journey, we will spin a new story.

Among the size that can pass airport security,
there was an owner of a piano shop who chose the best upright piano.
Thanks to her cooperation, this project could be realized.
She prepared the Grotrian's piano that Clara Schumann loved through her life.
It is an excellent product that only 500 units are produced per year, all people
in the airport were impressed the deeply powerful echoes.
