「Day 111」
６月19日、クオモ州知事が、コロナウィルスの第一波収束宣言を行った。
州内で最初の感染者が出た３月１日から111日間、１日も欠かすことなく、
医療関係者を含む対策チームと「事実」を公表する会見を行ってきた。
「どうか家にいてください。
誰がこんな言葉に従うだろうかと、私は胸が痛んだ。
データという事実だけを伝えるので、自分自身で考えて行動して欲しい」
かつて、こんな風に民意を励まし、奮い立たせてきたリーダーがいただろうか。
少し前までは、州都アルバニーにいる遠い存在だった州知事が、
いつしかニューヨーク最大のヒーローとなり、最強の仲間となった。
111日のうち、42日間はピークの階段を上り、69日間下降してきた。
４月上旬〜中旬には１日700人以上が亡くなり、まさに戦場と化していた。
その数字が20〜30人に落ち着き、経済の再開が段階的に進められている。
世界最大の感染者数となってしまった米国。
確たる原因は解明されていないが、新しい生活様式が定着しつつある。
マスク着用の義務化、そしてハグの挨拶がエルボーバンプに変わっていった。
これから迎える第二波の状況によっては、躊躇なく再びロックダウンが宣言される。
自由の国アメリカだからこそ、容赦なく法的措置が実施される。
「我々はタフだ。ニューヨークもタフだ。
この街は良い意味で私たちをタフにしてくれる」
「我々は、これを乗り切る。なぜなら、私はニューヨークを愛していて、
ニューヨークはあなたたちすべてを愛しているからだ」
「いつだって、最後には愛が勝つ。だからウィルスにも必ず勝つ」
幾度となく励まされてきた言葉と共に、完全なる収束を祈ろう。
Day 111.
On June 19, Gov. Cuomo declared the convergence of the first wave of COVID-19 virus.
In the 111 days since March 1, the first day that the first patient was outbreak in the state, he has held a press conference with a task force including a medical team to announce the "facts".
He said, "Stay home"
"But my heart aches for who would follow these words.
I'll just give you the facts, the data, so you could think and act on them for yourself."
Has there ever been a leader who has encouraged and inspired the will of the people in this way?
Not long ago, a distant presence in Albany, the state's capital, Gov.
Somewhere along the way, he became New York's biggest hero and strongest fellows.
Forty-two of the 111 days we climbed the stairs of the peak and descended for 69 days.
By early to mid-April, New York was a veritable war zone, with more than 700 people dying a day.
That number has settled to between 20 and 30, and the economy is being reopened in stages now.
The United States has become the world's largest infected country.
The cause of the outbreak is not yet known, but a new way of life is taking hold.
Putting on the mask has become mandatory, and hugs have been replaced by elbow bumps.
Depending on the circumstances of the upcoming second wave, a lockdown will be declared without hesitation.
Though it's the land of the free, America, legal action will be implemented without mercy.
"We are tough. New York tough.
Because this place makes you tough.
That’s makes you tough in good way."
"We gonna make it. Because I love New York. New York loves me.
New York loves all of you."
"In the end of the day, Love wins, always.
And we’ll win again, through this virus."
We pray for complete convergence, along with the words that have been encouraged many times.
