デュッセルドルフは、ドイツ国内で日系人が一番多く住む街。
そこから車で50分ほど、オーバーハウゼンという街に、
「ドイツ国際平和村」がある。
1967年、ドイツ市民の手によって作られた人道支援団体、NGO。
今年、創立51周年を迎えた。
紛争や貧困によって、たくさんの子どもたちが傷付いている。
母国では治療を受けることができない子どもたちを、
ドイツ国内に運んで、手術や治療を受けさせる。
そして母国に返すまでのリハビリ期間、子どもたちが一緒に過ごす場所。
それが「ドイツ国際平和村」。
アンゴラ、アフガニスタン、アルメニア、タジキスタン、ウズベキスタン、グルジアなどから、
子どもたちがやってくる。
初めは言葉を話せなかった子どもも、３ヶ月もすればドイツ語で交流する。
パスポートを持たない子どもも受け入れる。
移民や難民を増やすことはしない。
治療を受けた子どもたちを、必ず自国に返すというルールがある。
ドイツ政府が、目をつぶって市民団体の活動をサポートしているという事実。
平和村のホームページに、こんな言葉がある。
「平和はやってくるものではない。人間が築いていくもの」
まさに、その通りだと思う。
戦争が終わったからといって、すぐに平和がやってくるわけではない。
ベトナム戦争が残していった地雷で、いまだに被害者が出ているように。
内戦や紛争、そして富裕国の支配による貧困が発生している。
平和を作るのは国であり、それは人間が作るもの。
国がやらないなら、民間がやるしかない。
手足を失った子どもや、大火傷を負った子ども。
極度の栄養失調や不衛生から、骨髄炎を患っている子も多い。
一見すると健康そうに見えても、みんな身体のどこかが傷付いている。
目を覆いたくなるほど、傷付いている。
そして心には、もっと大きな傷を抱えている。
それでも平和村の子どもたちの笑顔は、無垢で屈託がない。
一度は信じられなくなったはずの大人たちとこの世界に、
また希望を持ってくれてありがとうと、頬をなでてあげたい。
11月にアンゴラから来たばかりの小さな女の子「イザベラ」。
生年月日も定かでないから、およそ２歳を過ぎた頃だろうか。
公園の隅に座ったまま、何かに怯えているかのように、表情がない。
言葉もわからず、怖いよね。
今はまだ不安だよね。
でもきっと３ヶ月後には、思いっきり笑顔を浮かべているに違いない。
年少組のグループで、私にとてもなついていた子どもがいた。
やはりアンゴラから来た、４歳ぐらいの男の子。
顔に大火傷を負って、目も鼻も口も、生まれた時の姿をとどめていない。
誰が見てもぎょっとするくらい、皮膚もパーツも、顔のすべてを失っている。
でも、変形したままの瞼の向こうに、黒い瞳があることに、
私は安堵した。
君には、この世界が見えているんだね。
そうだよ。自分がどんな風に思われるかが大事なんじゃない。
君の見ている世界が、いつまでも美しいモノであるように。
大人はそこに責任を持たないといけなんだ。
今回、ニューヨークと東京から集まった視察メンバー。
敬子さんは、アイディアマン。
不衛生な環境から命を落とすことの多い国や地域の子どもたちに、石鹸を配っている。
彼女は台風の目。周囲をすべて巻き込むパワーの持ち主。

そして私は、皆が外に放ったモノをもう一度拾い集める交通整理係。
いろんな人と想いを繋ぐ役、というところだろうか。
このメンバーで、このタイミングで、ドイツに集まったことに、
とても大きな意味がある気がしている。
それぞれが「自分ができることをやる」だけでなく、
同じベクトルに向けて、具体的な行動を起こせるチカラがある。
大人の私たちが、子どもたちにできることがある。
日本人の私たちだから、できることがある。
ドイツやアメリカにできて、日本にできないことを、
これから一緒にやっていくために。
ドイツからの帰り道。
静かに滑走路をクルーズし始めた飛行機の窓から、曇り空を眺める。
今にも泣き出しそうな空も、突き抜けるような青空も、全部好き。
いつか娘に見せてあげたい。
この空を。この空と海と地球を。
美しく、守らないといけない。
我が娘に光を分けてあげることすらできない母親だけれど、
私にできることをやるから、背中を感じていてください。
私たちは、早くも次の活動を始めている。
具体的に動くことだけが、次の一歩に繋がると信じているから。
来年は「未来のいのち国際サミット」(4月)と「地球こどもサミット」(8月)を開催します。
そして私たちの夢であった「Japan国際平和こども王国」設立に向けて、
着々と準備を進めています。
「目の前で困っている人がいたら、手を差し伸べること」を実行していきます。
だから、皆さんのチカラを、少しだけ私たちに貸してください。
子どもたちの未来のために、大人ができることを。

Düsseldorf is the town where Japanese people live the most in Germany.

Even if the war is over, peace will not come soon.
The Vietnam War left the landmines; the victims are still out.
Civil wars and conflicts, and poverty due to the domination of wealthy nations are occurring.
Peace should be made by the country/government; it is what human beings make.
If the government does not do it, the private sector does it.
A child who lost limbs and children who suffered a big burn.
Because of extreme malnutrition and unsanitary conditions, many children suffer from osteomyelitis.
Even if it seems healthy at first sight, everyone has been injured somewhere in the body.
The more you want to cover your eyes, the then they are wounded.
And they have a bigger scar in their mind.
Still, the smile of children in Peace Village is innocent and carefree.
Once, they might not believe in adults and this world.
But now I thank them that they have hope.
Isabella is a little girl who just came from Angola in November.
Since her birth date is also unknown, it is about time she passed around 2 years old.
Sitting in the corner of the park, as if being frightened by something, there is no facial expression.
She does not understand the words; it's scary.
She is still anxious now.
But after three months, I'm sure you will get a real smile.
In a group of young kids, there was a boy who sticks with me.
He was from Angola and about 4 years old.
He suffered a big burn on his face, eyes, nose, and mouth; he was a totally different appearance that he was born.
As everybody would be surprised, he lost all his face and parts as well.
However, there were black eyes behind the eyelids that remained deformed; I was relieved.
He can see the world.
That's right. It does not matter how people think you are.
The world that you are seeing must be beautiful forever.
Adults must be responsible there.
With this member, at this timing, gathering in Germany,
All we feel we have a huge meaning.
Not only each "I do what I can do,"
Towards the same vector, every member has the power that can take concrete action.
There is something we adults can do for children.
Because we are Japanese people, there are things we can do.
Being able to do in Germany and America, what we cannot do in Japan,
To do it together now.

I like the sky that is about to rain and the blue sky that goes to heaven.
I want to show the sky to my daughter someday.

We have to keep them beautiful.
I'm a mother who cannot divide the light even for my daughter.
But I will do what I can, so please feel my back.
We have already started the next activity.
Because we believe that only specific movements will lead to the next step.
Next year, we will host the "Peace Conference" and "The Earth Children Summit."
And for the establishment of "Japan International Peace Children's Kingdom," which is our dream, we are steadily preparing for it.
