ニューヨークに移り住んで15年以上になるけれど、日常生活の動線となる範囲は
本当に限られている。
マンハッタン近郊であっても、まだまだ行ったことがない所ばかり。
先日、熱狂的な野球ファンでなくても一度はのぞいてみたいといわれる場所に
足を踏み入れる機会をいただいた。
米国の野球場にはいわゆるクラブラウンジというのがあって、
様々な企業が会員制のラウンジを設置運営している。
なかでもヤンキースタジアムの「デルタスカイ360スイート」は、知る人ぞ知る、憧れの空間。
一般客とは別の入り口から入場し、そのまま上層階へのエスカレーターで
ラウンジへと向かう。
年中天候を気にせず観戦を楽しめるそこには、何ともセレブな雰囲気が漂っていた。
ラウンジ名物の寿司バーで握ってくれた「タナカロール」とビールを手に、
内野席まで降りていくこともできる。
室内の大画面で選手の表情を見ながら、フィールドから生の声援が聞こえるのも、
乙な気分が高まる。
なかなか点数の入らないスローなゲームを流し見しながら、
幼少の頃、父に連れられて行った西武球場を思い出していた。
外野席でビールが飲みたいからと、毎年後援会に入って、
帰りは混雑するからと、行きがけに買った切符をなくしては、叱られた。
記憶の断片をかき集めると、言葉にならないノスタルジーに襲われる。
すべての瞬間は、思い出づくりのためにあるのかもしれない。
美化された思い出に頼って、人は生きていくのだと。
