自分の居場所が見つけられない。
対人恐怖症という社会適応障害を持つ主人公エヴァンが、自分宛に手紙を書く。
「親愛なるエヴァンへ。今日はとても良い日だった」
セラピストにすすめられて、嘘偽りの自分を演出した妄想の世界。
その手紙が、自殺した同級生コナーのポケットから見つかったことから、
世界が大逆転を始める。
コナーの家族は、エヴァンが息子の親友だったと信じ込み、暖かく受け入れる。
エヴァンが立ち上げた「コナープロジェクト」のスピーチがネット配信され、
彼は一躍時の人となったものの、また別のキッカケで落ちぶれていく。
嘘で固めた世界は、エヴァンの母親や、古い友達との関係にも亀裂を入れ、
後半はひたすらせつなく、苦しいシーンばかりで構成されている。
ミュージカルという華やかな舞台にあって、どこまでもリアル。
SNS社会に依存し、そこにしか自分の存在意義を見つけられない若者が、
最後は母親と和解して、ありのままの自分を受け入れる。
歌やダンスも少ない地味な演出だが、SNSの取り入れ方はまさに現代的。
インターネットが普及して、世界中の誰とでも自由に話せるはずなのに、
その裏で「孤独」を感じている人は多いだろう。
誰しもがエヴァンの苦しみに、自分の心にある意識を重ね合わせ、
会場の至る所からすすり泣く声が響く、メッセージ性の高い作品。
2017年のトニー賞を総なめした本作品、近い将来日本に上陸して欲しい。
我が娘は、全曲空で歌えるほど、この作品を気に入っている。
"I can't find my place."
Evan, a protagonist with social adjustment disorder called social phobia, writes a letter to himself.
"Dear Evan Hansen. Today was a very good day."
The therapist encouraged him, and he wrote his world of delusions.
After this letter was found in the pocket of his classmate, Connor who suicide, his world begins a great reversal.
Connor's family embraces Evan as his son's best friend and accepts him warmly.
The speech of "Connor Project" launched by Evan was distributed online,
He became a person at a glance, but fell off with another trigger.
The world solidified by lies breaks the relationship with Evan's mother and old friends,
The second half is made up of only heart-painful scenes.
Though it's on a gorgeous stage called a musical, and it's a very realistic.
He was a young man who depends on the SNS society and could find his own significance only in the world of Internet.
Finally, he reconciled with his mother and accepted himself as he is.
Although it is a simple production with few songs and dances, the way of incorporating SNS is just modern.
The internet has become so widespread that we can talk to anyone around the world.
But many people feel "loneliness" behind the scenes.
Everyone may overlaps Evan's suffering with the consciousness in their own heart.
The work has a strong message, and sobbing voices echoing throughout the venue.
I hope this work, which has swept the Tony Prize in 2017, will land in Japan in the near future.
My daughter likes this musical very much so that she can sing all songs in the play.
