初めて案内状を手にした時、一体何のことだろうと思った。
アフタースクールプログラム、いわゆる放課後のお稽古事として、
バレエよりも人気がある体操のクラス。
９月に新しい学年が始まり、数ヶ月経った年明けの頃になると、
次々に大会の参加招待が届き始める。
実力や年齢別に細かくレベル分けされていて、
全員が出席できるわけではないから、
所属チームから連絡が来ると、参加の可否に選択の余地がない。
子供達はチームとして結束して大会に臨むけれど、
大会参加費や競技用レオタードなど、予定外の出費が嵩むのは悩ましい。
ニュージャージーの奥地での観戦は、ほぼ丸１日がかり。
準備体操をする子供達を見て、ここは軍隊かと思うほどの
英才教育ぶりを痛感する。
これだけ体操人口が多ければ、世界チャンピオンになりうる人材を
発掘するのは、難しくないだろう。
何でもほどほどに、普通がいい。
そんなことを思いながら、帰路についた。
When I got my first invitation letter, I thought what it was.

Because not everyone can attend,
When an invitation comes from the team, there is no room for selection as
to whether or not to participate.
Children unite as a team and face the tournament.
But it is little annoying for unexpected expenses such as convention participation
fee and competition leotard to increase.
We had to spent almost full day for watching in New Jersey.
Preparation Looking at the children who do gymnastics, I felt that this was like
an army or special education.
Among this gymnastics population, it will not be difficult to excavate a talent
who can become a world champion.
Anything moderate and normal is better.
While thinking such a thing, I came home.
