学生時代、私は西洋美術史を専攻していた。
海外アートに憧れ、イタリアルネッサンスをこよなく愛していた。
当時、同級生が琳派の研究をしていた。
私にとっては、遠い世界の出来事のようだった。
３年前、従妹の結婚披露宴が京都建仁寺で行われた。
琳派生誕400年で盛り上がる京都、改めてその素晴らしさを学んだ。
日本画家・山岸泉琳氏も、25年前までは現代アートに注心していたという。
彼女がニューヨークで、ふと琳派に魅された理由を知りたくて、
チェルシーのギャラリーに足を運んだ。
真っ白い空間に、まさに「凛」として金屏風が並ぶ。
日本の春を恋しく思う私に酷なぐらい、美しい桜吹雪が舞っている。
日本の四季の移り変わりは、その命の儚さが情緒を深める。
桜も紅葉も、短い命を精一杯に生きて、
また来年への希望へと繋いでくれる。
その一瞬を描き出すからこそ、封じられた生命のエネルギーがそこにある。
「新・琳派」とも称される泉琳氏の作品の圧倒的迫力に、
たくさんのニューヨーカーが魅了されていくだろう。

In a pure white space, gold folding screens were lined up just as "Be dignified".
A beautiful cherry blossom snowstorm is dancing, and it reminded me spring of Japan.
The transition of the four seasons in Japan, makes emotion deeper because of its short period.
Both cherry blossoms and autumn leaves live a short life,
