祖母の家には、毎日のように多くの来客があった。
私たち孫は納屋に集められて、せっせと料理の下ごしらえを手伝った。
一つ上の姉と私、そして同じ年の従妹は、いつもジャガイモの皮むき担当。
寒い納屋で、アカ切れた手をさすりながら、皮をむいた。
多い時は200個のコロッケを作るために、せっせと皮をむいた。
料理をして、人に食べてもらいたい。
多分その気風は、祖母よりずっと以前の祖先からの遺伝子だと思う。
家に人が集まって、たくさん食べてくれると、それだけで嬉しい。
ただ、我が家のピラニア軍団は、何でも瞬時に食べてしまう。
いわゆる「手の込んだ料理」というものから、縁遠い日常がここにある。
誰かの家に招かれての食事というのは、本当に久しぶり。
このひとときのために、入念な準備をしてくださったという心が嬉しい。
身体に優しい、美しい料理というテーマの通り、
美味しい和食の数々と、素敵な女性たちに囲まれて、
マイナス12度という外の寒さを、しばし忘れられた日曜日の午後。
