日本で活躍中の若手クリエイターが、広告業界の国際賞を受賞した。
世界45カ国、500人の参加者から28人のWINNERに選ばれた篠原健太氏。
その授賞式にアテンドしてほしいというのがリクエストだった。
「ストップモーションアニメーター」と聞いて、何を想像するだろうか。
私は当初まったくイメージが湧かず、担当者のセリフを反復した。
パラパラ漫画のようなコマ割りでカットを考えて、
キャラクターをミリ単位で動かし、それらに息吹を与えるアーティスト。
渡されたプロフィールを暗唱して、セレモニーの当日に備えた。
PR担当女性と篠原氏がニューヨーク入りして、濃密な時間が始まる。
海外は初めてという篠原氏の目に、この街がどう映るのかも興味深い。
初日は、28人のWINNERとの親交を深める前夜祭。
1921年に世界最古の広告賞を設定したアート・ディレクターズ・クラブが主催、
それぞれの受賞者が自己紹介をしながら、和気藹々と盛り上がった。
翌日、レセプション会場となったソニーホールにはたくさんの人が駆けつけて、
世界中から集まった受賞者たちの功績を称えた。
最後に、一般投票で選ばれる「クリエイティブ・チョイス・アワード」の発表。
頂点に立った篠原氏の名前が呼ばれると、拍手喝采の中、彼が壇上に上がった。
一緒に寄り添って来たPR担当者が涙を流し、本人はガッツポーズ。
歴史的瞬間に立ち会ってしまった私は、感動で足が震えた。
英語が出来なくても、経験がなくても、アートは世界に門戸を開いている。
技術と能力があれば、きっと世界はすぐそこに繋がっていく。
