米国留学から一時帰国していた冬休み、トムクルーズ主演の映画「アイズワイドシャット」を観に行った。
非常に大人っぽい内容はもちろん、その舞台となる仮面仮装パーティーのシーンがあまりにも強烈で、カルチャーショックを受けたことを覚えている。
映画を観た当時は、「ユニークな大人達が集う非日常的な社交の一手段」として「仮装パーティー」があるのだと思っていた。
しかし、ここマンハッタンには年中仮装グッズを販売しているコスチュームショップが散在し、個性的な商品で溢れる店内はいつもたくさんの買い物客で賑わっている。
ハロウィンまで秒読みとなったこの時期、老若男女みな「今年はどんな格好をするの？」と尋ねあう。
ここの国の人達は皆、変身願望が非常に強いのだろうか。
国中をあげて、とにかく仮装が大好きなのだ。
During a winter vacation when I had returned from studying in the United
States, I went to see the movie "Eyes Wide Shut" starring Tom Cruise.
I remember that it was culture shock, that the course content very mature
and the costume party masks were too intense at the scene of stage.
At the time I saw the movie, I thought there was a "costume party" as "a
means of reaching adult social extraordinary unique gathering."
However, the costume shop that sells goods all year round fancy dress
are scattered here in Manhattan, the store full of unique products are
always crowded with a lot of shoppers.
Now became a countdown to Halloween, all men and women of all ages
ask each other "What will you dress this year?"
The desire for makeover of people of this country very strong, isn't it?
All over the country, people love the costume very much anyway.
