週末、友人に誘われて、練り切りレッスンに出かけた。
茹でた白いんげん豆や白アズキに、砂糖か蜜で甘みをつけた「白あん」。
そこに芋や米粉といったツナギの食材を入れて作った「練り切りあん」に、
手作業で繊細な加工をして「練り切り」菓子を完成させる。
前回会得した要領もあり、和気藹々としながら桃の節句の練り切りが完成。
その達成感よりも、日本の伝統をニューヨークで味わえる醍醐味を求めて、
日系人が多くここに通うのであろう。
持ち帰った練り切り菓子を小さな雛人形の前に並べて、我が家のひな祭りが完成。
日本の伝統を伝えるには、これだけでも十分にありがたい。
「隣家が火事を出して家が水浸しになり、私の雛人形はなくなってしまったの」
いま東京で闘病している母のことを思い出す桃の節句。
母はもう、娘や孫の名前を言葉に出せなくなってしまった。
日本がまた遠くなる、望郷の念が募る桃の節句。
On a weekend, I was asked to attend Japanese sweets lesson by a friend.
Boiled white beans and white azuki beans are sweetened with sugar or honey to make "Shiroan".
To “Nerikiri An” made by adding ingredients such as potatoes and rice flour, the delicate processing is done by hand to complete the "Nerikiri" confectionery.
There was a point that I had learned last time, and "Nerikiri" for the doll festival was completed in a harmonious manner.
Rather than a sense of accomplishment, seeking the real pleasure of experiencing the Japanese tradition in New York, many Japanese come here.
We put the "Nerikiri" brought back in front of the small dolls, and the Doll's Festival of us was completed.
This alone was enough to convey Japanese tradition.
"Our house was flooded when our neighbor house was burned, and my dolls were gone."
A doll festival reminds me of my mother who has been shick in the hospital in Tokyo.
My mother can no longer say the names of her daughters and grandchildren.
A doll festival inspired me by the feeling of nostalgia that Japan is far away.
