日本全国緊急事態宣言の発令中、公共交通機関が通常運行していたことが、
何よりの驚きだった。
電車もバスも、窓を開けて換気をしながら、時刻表通りに運行されていた。
リモートワークが推奨され、通勤ラッシュは多少緩和されていたのだろう。
ニューヨーク市内は、エッセンシャルビジネス以外の完全封鎖が続いている。
市民の足であった地下鉄は、かなりの間引き運転になっている上に、
閉鎖された空間の悪臭と治安の悪化が懸念され、乗客は激減している。
街中の渋滞がないから、今はバスを使うのが有用であるかもしれない。
エッセンシャルがゆえに移動をする。だから運賃は不要。
運転手の安全確保のためにシートがかかり、乗客は後方のドアから乗降する。
人々はマスクをしているものの、完全に人と距離を空けられないバスの中。
それでも車椅子や歩行器を使用する客は、堂々と乗降ができるアメリカ。
アフターコロナの世界は、どんな風に変わっていくのだろう。
ソーシャルディスタンシングを保てる公共交通機関なんて、夢のまた夢。
