まだまだ肌寒いニューヨークだけれど、
ミッドタウンのホテルロビーに、ひと足早く桜の便りが届いた。
祖母は手作り造花、いわゆるシルクフラワーのパイオニアで、
器用にコサージュを作り出すその技術は、まさに生きた国宝級だった。
祖母の大作「ソメイヨシノ」の造花は、昭和の時代にずっと
首相官邸の応接間に飾られていたそうだ。
ニューヨークで生きた桜の花を眺めながら、
祖母の手作り造花を懐かしむ。
たった一週間で見頃を終えてしまう儚さが桜の魅力でもあるけれど、
その姿が永遠であることを臨むのは、
不可能を可能に変えていく意思の強さでもあると、祖母に学んだ。

I reminded her handmade artificial flowers.
The charm of cherry blossom is transience that would have finished in
full bloom in just one week, but people hope the flower blooms forever.
I learned from her that the strong intention could able to change things
from impossible to possible.
