ニューヨーク、ボストン、シカゴが、米国３大マラソン開催地。
なかでも、NYシティーマラソンは、毎年完走者が５万人以上にも及ぶ、
世界で最も規模の大きな市民マラソンである。
とはいえ、参加資格を得るのは難しい。
抽選ではなかなか当選しないから、市民ランナーの会へのレース参加、
ボランティア参加、あるいは団体への寄付など、
ニューヨーカーはあらゆる手段を試みる。
そしてようやく手にした切符を、11月の第一日曜日に使い切る。
私も参加している友人達に声援を送るために、地図を片手にコースを
先回りしてずっと走った。
都市型マラソンは、沿道の応援が選手達のアドレナリンを活性化させる
というから、つい声が枯れるまで応援してしまう。
「ニッポン、頑張れ！」と叫ぶと、日本人ランナーは必ず手を振り返してくれる。
それほど、異国の地で聞く母国語は、特別な響きがあるのだろう。
ニューヨークの５区をすべて通り、紅葉付いたセントラルパークでゴールする。
白い紐を持った伴走者よりも、足取りの軽やかな全盲ランナー。
辺りが暗くなっても走ることをやめない車いすランナー。
彼らの勇姿を見るだけで、胸が熱くなる。
今年もまた、たくさんの感動をありがとう。
New York, Boston, Chicago are the three major marathon city in the
United States.
Among them, NY City Marathon, every year finisher spans to more
than 50,000 people,
It is the most large-scale citizen marathon in the world.
However, it is difficult to obtain a qualification.
New Yorker tries every means.
Because winning in the lottery is not easy, participation to the race of
the New York Road Runner Organization, participation to volunteer or
donation to the organization.
And people use up the premium ticket on the first Sunday in November.
For cheering to friends that were participating, I ran all the way proactively
with a course map in hand.
At the urban marathon, since as the support of the roadside activates the
athletes of adrenaline, I cheered up the runners till I got throat pain.
"Go for it, Japan!"
When I shout, Japanese runners surely replied by waving hand.
The native language heard in a foreign land was probably reached them
as a special sound.
They went through all five boroughs of New York City, and the goal was in
the Central Park where was filled with autumn leaves.
I saw a blind runner with an escort connected by white cord.
I saw a wheelchair runner who did not stop running even it got the darkened
around.
Just seeing their brave figure, my heart got warm.
I thanked a lot of excitement this year too.
