我が家の目の前にある雑貨屋さんのショウウィンドウ。
繁華街から離れた静かな居住区の片隅で、普段は掃除機やら照明器具やらをゴタゴタと並べているだけのディスプレイ。
ところが毎年この時期だけは、夢いっぱいのこんな商品を並べている。
ジェットコースター、パラシュート、メリーゴーランド、スケートリンク････。
手の細かい作りを眺めていると、幼い頃に父に手を引かれて歩いた遊園地の思い出が蘇る。
街の片隅のこんな場所で、まさかこんな気の利いたギフトを買えるとは思えない意外性が功を奏するのか、毎日少しずつ商品が入れ替わっている。
ホリデーシーズンのギフト商戦はピークを過ぎたとはいえ、年末のカウントダウンまではチップの書き入れ時だから、アパートのドアマンは過剰なほどにサービスをしてくれる。
彼らはこの時期だけに一年の稼ぎの半分近くを期待するらしい。
きっと目の前の雑貨屋さんも、この時期の売れ行きに勝負をかけて、渾身のアイディアを振り絞ってウィンドウを飾り付けているのだろう。
しかしその実、クリスマスオーナメントを飾るその横には、ユダヤ教のハヌッキヤー（八枝の燭台）が所狭しと並べられている。
他宗教の国だからこそ、ディスプレイにも意外と気遣いが必要なのだ。
人々も「メリークリスマス！」ではなくて「ハッピーホリデー！」と声をかけあって、この時期をやり過ごすのが通例。

This is the general store's shop window in the front of my apartment.
In the corner of a quiet residential area away from downtown, usually they
only display alongside Lighting, Vacuum cleaner, and so on.
But only this time of year, here is full of products of dreams side by side.
Roller coaster, parachute, carousel, skating rink ... ... ....
When looking at these fine handmade products, I revive memories of the
amusement park walked with my father in my childhood.
Though it is in places like the corner of the town, many gifts are sold here.
And the items have been changed little by little every day.
Holiday gift shopping season has passed its peak, but it still the busy season
to get the holiday tips for doorman of the apartment.
They give us too much about the service, expecting nearly half of the
earnings of the year only at this time.
The owner of the general store tried to summon up the idea of the
decorating window that made win in sales over this period.
But the real, next to the Christmas ornaments, the Jewish Hanukkia (eight
branched candlestick) is a crammed alongside.
We need special care even for the window display, since here is a country
from many religions.
People don't say "Merry Christmas !" but also "Happy Holidays ! " to
withstand customary in this period.
