“REOPENING NYC”
朝から目に飛び込むこの文字に、ふと涙が出そうになった。
“DAY 100”
ニューヨークで最初の感染者が出た３月１日から100日目の今日、
クオモ州知事が「ニューヨーク市、リオープン」の宣言をした。
新型コロナウィルスは、ニューヨークの街に大打撃を与えた。
ニューヨーク市だけで感染者は20万5000人、死者２万2000人、
世界中でも最も被害の大きい都市となってしまった。
先月末に始まった人種差別に対する抗議デモや暴動が一斉に広がり、
再開に向けて準備してきていた街が、また暗闇に包まれていくかのようだった。
それでも、ニューヨークは再開する。
小売、建設、製造、卸売業で、約40万人が再稼働すると予測されるフェーズ１。
3月22日のロックダウンから２ヶ月半、ニューヨーク市民は耐えてきた。
恐る恐る戸外に出ると、大通りの車が増えたように感じる。
暴動防止の板を外し、営業の準備を始める小売店。
初夏の日差しの中、建設業の現場には大声が飛び交う。
街を歩く人はマスクで顔を覆い、路上でハグをする人もいない。
でも、明らかに昨日とは違う空気が、この街を覆い始めている。

皆を励まし続けてきた言葉の力を、今噛み締めている。

In this morning, I just got the words of this big announcement, that almost got tear-filled my eyes.
"DAY 100."
Today, it could be passed 100 days after the first Patient was found in New York City on March 1.
Gov. Cuomo declared "New York City Reopens".
The COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the state of New York.
In New York City alone, over 205,000 people have been infected, 22,000 have died, and
It has become one of the hardest hit cities in the world.
Protests and riots against racial discrimination that began late last month have spread on masse.
It seemed as if the city, which had been preparing to reopen, was going to be closed again.
Still, New York City has reopened.
About 400,000 people in retail, construction, manufacturing, and wholesale trade are expected to reopen in Phase 1.
In the two and a half months since the March 22 lockdown, New Yorkers have endured.
As I stepped fearfully out of the door, it felt as if the number of cars on Main Street had increased.
Retailers removed their protection boards for riot and began to prepare for business.
Under the early summer sun, workers were shouting at construction sites.
People walking the streets cover their faces with masks and no one is hugging in the streets.
But clearly, a different air is beginning to blanket the city than yesterday.
