金曜日、朝練の始まる6時50分に、次男を学校に送る。
「ママ、日が長くなったね」
何気ない一言に、私は耳を疑った。
日本ではごく日常にある会話だけれど、
こういう表現ができる感性の芽生えが、私はとても嬉しい。
「少し前、朝練の時間は真っ暗だったよね」
放課後のお稽古事を終えて、家に帰る時間はすでに真っ暗で、
子供達と歩く冬のマンハッタンは、いつも街灯が灯っている。
日曜日の真夜中から、夏時間が始まった。
時計の針を一時間戻して、重たい瞼を開けて始動する。
週末からまた寒波がやってきて、まだまだ冬将軍が居座っているけれど、
少なくとも、お迎えの時間が明るいだけで、
気分はずっと前向きでいられる。
そして日が暮れる。
空気が澄んだ氷点下の夜は、満月がどこまでも美しい。
