初夏の備忘録。
出身高校の同窓会に米国支部が発足したのは５年程前のこと。
登録されているだけでも、全米に100名近い同窓生が在住しているというのは心強い。
同窓生が集う総会は、毎年場所を変えて、米国各都市で開催される。
今年は４年ぶりにニューヨークにその会場がまわってきた。
１年以上前から幹部が選任されているのに、直前にならないと動き出さないのは同窓生の特色。
しかし直前の連携プレーは見事なもので、２日間に渡る総会は盛況だった。
初日の総会では、NYで御活躍中の先輩（建築家）が「NY建築アーバンデザインの変遷」を講義してくださった。
翌日に企画されたハーレムツアーでは、ゴスペルミサを観賞。
ゴスペルは、奴隷として言語・宗教をはく奪されたアフリカ人が、神に讃える言葉をリズムと旋律にあわせて表現したのが始まり。
その後、ジャズやロックなどとも結びついて発展したため、必ずしもR&B（リズム＆ブルース）だけではない。
教会で聴くラップのゴスペルはとても新鮮で、心に響いた。
世界最大のゴシック大聖堂セントジョンディバインやアポロシアターをまわり、車内ガイドからはキング牧師やマルコムの話も聞くことができた。
治安の悪さから、日頃はなかなか一人では歩くことのできないハーレム。
改めてニューヨークの別の顔を体感して、とても得した気分。
日本を離れた土地で奮闘する同窓生の皆さんから受け取る刺激は多い。
先輩後輩の分け隔てなく、世代と場所を超えて絆を大切にする姿勢、すべてが心の宝物。
It’s a memorandum of early summer.
U.S. Branch of my high school reunion was established about five years
ago.
Nearly 100 alumni are registered as resident in the U.S.
Alumni meeting have been held in different location in the U.S. each city
every year.
This year, we have had the venue in New York for the first time in four
years.
Executives have been appointed more than a year before, but it was the
feature of alumni that they did not do anything till time just before the
meeting.
But their cooperation just before the thing was stunning, the two days of
General Assembly was big success.
In the General Assembly on the first day, an alumni (an architect) lectured
"History of NY architecture as urban design".
In Harlem tour that was planned the next day, we saw the Gospel Mass
in the church.
Gospel had begun from African people who were stripped of language
and religion as slaves, and had been expressed in accordance with the
melodic rhythm and the words to praise to God.
Since then, it has evolved and also tied with jazz and rock, not only R&B
(rhythm and blues).
Gospel rap that I listened in the church was very fresh, I was very
impressed.
We went to the Apollo Theater and the world's largest Gothic Cathedral,
St. John Divine, and were able to also hear the story of Malcolm and
Martin Luther King, Jr. from the tour guide.
We usually can not walk alone in Harlem because of bad security.
I was lucky that I had an experience of a different face of New York.
I receive the stimuli from all alumni who work hard in the world.
Between seniors and juniors, there attitude to value the bonds beyond
the generation and location, it is all treasure of my heart.
