サンクスギビングの翌日、ブラックフライデーで湧き上がる日に、
是枝裕和監督の「万引き家族」がニューヨークで封切られた。
「万引き」という言葉すら知らない我が子たちがどう感じるか。
日本社会の闇の部分を、アメリカ人たちはどう受け止めるのか。
私のドキドキとは裏腹に、映画は淡々とストーリーを刻む。
会場から聞こえるのは、深いため息、笑い声、そしてすすり泣き。
字幕を読むアメリカ人の方が、セリフを聞く日本人よりも早く反応する。
日本の闇社会を横目に見ながら、血の繋がらない家族のストーリー。
小学生の次男次女にとっては過激なシーンもたくさんあり、
映画館を出た時は、少しだけ重い空気が流れた。
「家族って、いったい何だろうね」
「愛があっても、悲しい結末があるんだね」
そんな会話が生まれただけでも、この映画を観る価値がある。
ネグレクトも貧困も、日本だけの話じゃない。
いろんなことを考えさせられた、今年のサンクスギビングホリデー。

The film of "Shoplifters" directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda was released in New York.
My kids did not even know the word "shoplifting".
I wondered how Americans would take the dark part of Japanese society.
Contrary to my excitement, the movie inscribed the story gently.
At the venue, there were deep sigh, laughter, and crying.
Americans who read subtitles responded faster than Japanese who listened to script.
It is the story of a family with no blood connection who live in Japanese dark society.
There is also a lot of extreme scenes for my kids of elementary school student,
When we left the cinema, a little heavy air flowed.
"What is real family?"
"Even if there is love, there is a sad ending."
Even if we had such conversation, it is worth watching this movie.
Neglect and poverty are the problem in the world.
We thought about various things on Thanksgiving holidays.
