夏時間が始まり気候が良くなると、毎週末のようにマンハッタン中のどこかで「ストリートフェア」が開催される。
南北に走る大きな通り（アベニュー）を10ブロック前後通行止めにして、
各国の食べ物、飲み物、特産品、衣類、装飾品を売るベンダーがテントを並べ、
仮設会場でコンサートが開催されたりする。
日本のお祭りでの屋台と比べて、より生活に近い実用品が売られているのが特徴でもある。
フェアに参加するベンダーは、すべて年間スケジュールの元にその配置も決められているから、当日の運営は驚くほどスムーズである。
数日前より、NY警察が告知をして付近の駐禁を徹底する。
朝、あっという間にベンダーがやってきて、テントを配置し、開始の合図をする間もなく人々が集まってくる。
一日中人込みで大混雑した後、夕方５時頃には撤収が開始され、あっという間にベンダーたちは姿を消す。
その後清掃車がきて、ザーッと通りを片付けると、通行止めも解除。
そして、何事もなかったかのように、マンハッタンがいつもの顔に戻る。
お祭り好きのニューヨーカーにとっては娯楽の一つでもあるが、毎週どこかで通行止めになるのは、ドライバー達にとって不便きわまりない。
When the climate gets better and summer time starts, "Street Fair" will be
held somewhere in Manhattan as every weekend.
The big street that runs north-south called Avenue is closed in around the
10 blocks.
There are the stands of the vendors of each country sell food, drink,
specialty products, clothing, and ornaments.
The concert is held in temporary venues.
It is also a feature, as compared to the stalls in the festival of Japan,
utility goods close to life more are sold.
Because the vendors that participate the Fair are determined the
arrangement on the basis of all annual schedule, the management of the
day is a surprisingly smooth.
A few days before the event, New York Police Department announces
the parking is prohibited.
In the early morning, the vendors come and place the stalls, and then
people come without the signal of the start.
After the crowded all day, the withdrawal is initiated in the evening from
around 5:00pm, the vendor disappear in no time.
Then the cleaning cars come and clear up the street in quick, road
closures is released soon.
And, as if nothing had happened, Manhattan returns to usual face.
It is a form of entertainment for the New Yorkers who love festival, but it
becomes extremely in inconvenience for the drivers since the traffic
blocking is set somewhere every week.
