前夜はMIFUNEでのイベント、会計が締まったのが午前２時過ぎ。
帰宅して、２時間程仮眠をしたら、目覚ましが鳴った。
子供達の弁当を作り、学校に送り出し、慌ててパッキングをする。
「ドイツ国際平和村」の子供たちへ持っていくズボン40枚とヘア飾り、
手品グッズとワインコルク、折り紙と手ぬぐい。すでに箱はいっぱい。
自分用の着替えは、手持ちバッグに詰め込めるだけしか持てない。
直行便のフライトチケットを購入する余裕はなかったから、
アトランタ空港で乗り継いで、ドイツのデュッセルドルフ空港へ降り立った。
ニューヨークの自宅を出てから、すでに18時間が経過。
前夜の疲れで、機内で首がつった時には、この先の我が身を案じた。
入国審査も長蛇の列だったけれど、税関でもまた別室での尋問へ。
カッターで開封された段ボール箱には、衣類と雑貨がいっぱい。
「いったい、何の商売をするつもりだ？」と。
英語で説明するも、税関員さえ「ドイツ国際平和村」の存在を知らない。
ようやく解放されたゲートの向こう、平和村のスタッフ・妙子さんが待っていた。
初めてお会いするのに、親しみ深い笑顔で出迎えてくれたことが、本当に嬉しかった。
日本とニューヨークからの視察メンバー、それぞれと現地集合予定。
私が最初の到着だった。
チェックインまで時間があるからと、近くの町を案内してもらう。
第二次世界大戦の軌跡が残る建物や、カトリックの大聖堂。
石畳の続く町で、その歴史を肌で感じる。
なぜここに来たのだろう。
もう一度自分に問いかけていた時に、妙子さんが同じ質問をして来た。
隠す必要はないから、そのまま答える。
「重複障害の娘がいて、アメリカの教育や制度の中で暮らしていること。
我が子だけでなく、次世代を担う子どもたち世代へ繋げる活動を、日米で展開したいと考えていること。
「地球こどもサミット」のメンバーと築き上げている想いを、日本の皆さんへ伝えたいこと」
いろんな話をしているうちに、妙子さんがポツリと言った。
「私、美香さんの本を読みました。あの美香さんなんですね。
いつかお会いしたいと思っていました。御縁に感激です」
それなら、自分の話を詳細にする必要もきっとないだろう。
私はむしろ、14年前から「ドイツ国際平和村」のスタッフとして働いている妙子さんのことを、
もっと知りたくなった。
夕方、日本からのメンバーが合流した。
「地球こどもサミット」の主催者・敬子さんと息子のカイ君。
そして、この夏のサミットを一緒に作りあげた美智代さん。
妙子さんも一緒に明日からの動向を打ち合わせする。
夜遅い時間に、ニューヨークからロンドン経由で、のぞみさん御夫妻が到着。
全部で６名の視察団。明日からどんな物語が生まれるのだろうか。
I had an event at MIFUNE, and was off around 2 AM.
When I got home and took a nap for about 2 hours, the alarm clock rang.
I made lunch box for children, sent them to school, packed up my stuff in haste.
For the children of "Friedensdorf International / Germany International Peace Village", I will bring 40 pants, hair ornaments, magic merchandise, wine cork, origami, and towel.
Already my box was full.
Clothes for myself can only be packed in hand-carry bag.
Because I could not afford to purchase direct flight tickets,
I transited at the Atlanta Airport and got off at the Dusseldorf airport in Germany.
18 hours have already passed since I left my home in New York.
As I was too tired in the flight, when I've got a cramp in my neck, I was worried about my future.
There was a long line at the immigration examination, even at customs, I was asked to get an interrogation in another room.
The cardboard box opened with a cutter was full of clothing and miscellaneous goods.
"Are you planning to do business in Germany?"
I explained in English, even customs officials did not know the existence of "Friedensdorf International / Germany International Peace Village".
Beyond the gate which was finally released, Staff Taeko of Peace Village was waiting.
Though it was the first time to meet her, it was a great pleasure to meet her with a familiar smile.
I was the first arrival in the tour members who got here form New York and Japan.
Because there was time to check in, Taeko showed me around the town.
Building where the trajectory of World War II remains and Cathedral of Catholicism.
In the town where the stone pavement continues, I felt the history with my body & soul.
I wondered why I came here.
Taeko asked the same question me when I asked myself again.
There was no need to hide, so I answered as it was.
"I have a daughter who has multiple disabilities and we are living in American education and institution.
Thinking that I want to develop activities not only for my kids but also for children who will be responsible for the next generation in Japan and the US.
What I would like to convey our mission that are building up with members of 'the Earth Children Summit' to Japanese people."
While talking about various things, Taeko told me.
"Now I remember I read your book, you are the author, Mika-san, right ?
I am deeply happy to meet you by the edge."
In that case, I definitely did not need to detail my story.
Rather, I wanted to know more about Taeko who was working as a staff member of "German International Peace Village" from 14 years ago.
In the evening, members from Japan joined.
Keiko, the organizer of "the Earth Children's Summit", and his son Kai.
And Michiyo who made up this summer summit together.
Taeko and we together talked about the activities from tomorrow.
On late night, Nozomi and Joshua arrived from New York via London.
We are six members total of the observation team.
I guess what kind of story will be born from tomorrow.
