先週末、マンハッタンの街はサンタクロースによってジャック(占領)された。
どこから湧いてくるのか分からないというほど、どこもかしこもサンタだらけ。
赤い帽子と白い髭をつけた正統派から、ピンクのガウンに緑のピタピタタイツというちょっと変わったサンタまで、街中が大騒ぎでサンタクロースを迎えていた。
「サンタクロースになりきって楽しもう」数年前からインターネットの呼びかけで始まった「Santa Con」イベント。
現在32か国、228か所での開催がリストされている。
初めての年は、街中でタクシーに乗り込むたくさんのサンタクロースを見て、
ぎょっとしたものだが、今ではもうすっかり定着したイベントとして、街中が
「偽サンタクロース」の大移動を微笑ましく見守っている。
米国人は、童心に帰って遊ぶのも好きだけれど、それ以上に、コスチュームが
大好きな文化なのだと改めて思う。
クリスマスの夜にトナカイに乗ってやってくるはずのサンタクロースが、今では
髭もつけずにＵＧＧのブーツを履いて、地下鉄に乗っている。
夢見る子供達への悪影響だけが、ちょっと心配だけれども、日本でも東京と
沖縄での開催が決定しているようだ。
「偽サンタクロース」の登場が市民権を獲得する日も近い？！
ちなみに、イースター近辺には「Bunny Con」、夏の日の「Pirate Con」。
どこまでもなりきることが肝要だ。
Last weekend, the city of Manhattan was occupied by many numbers of
Santa Claus.
Everywhere was covered with Santa, though I did not know where they
came from.
Many kinds of Santa, with a white beard and orthodox red hat, with green
tights in pink gown, were greeted with excitement by the people in the city.

That was the "Santa Con" event that began in the last few years via
Internet.
Currently 32 countries with 228 locations are listed.
The first year, I was surprised to see a lot of Santa Claus get in a taxi on
the street.
But now firmly established as the one special event, people welcome the
"Fake Santa Claus" in the city.
American people like to play with Naivety, and also they love the costume
culture.
Santa Claus, who is supposed to come on reindeer ride at the night of
Christmas, now rides a subway wearing UGG boots even without beard.
I'm worried a little about negative impact to dreaming children, but it seems
to have decided to be held in Tokyo and Okinawa in Japan.
"Fake Santa Clause" will win to get their citizenship in Japan soon.
Incidentally, the "Bunny Con" will be held at Easter and the "Pirate Con"
will be in summer.
