かつてこの土地に来た時、胸に息苦しさを覚えた。
年に何度も洪水する海面の近さが、さらに私を不安にさせた。
それでも、この街の歴史を、体感したかった。
あの時、路上で出会った一枚の絵が、忘れられなかった。
名も知らぬアーティストが描いたニューヨークの光景。
どうしても欲しいと思ったけれど、私たちに買える値段ではなかった。
今回の旅で、なぜここに寄りたかったのだろうと考える。
心を揺さぶるアートの存在を、もう一度確かめたかったのかもしれない。
５世紀にゲルマン人から逃れたイタリア人が作り上げた「水の都」。
毎年少しずつ地盤沈下が進み、数百年後には消滅するという街に、
人々は魅了され、その美しさを目に焼き付けておきたいと思う。
いつか命尽き果てるその日まで、必死に生きる人間と同じように、
ヴェネツィアという街は、沈みゆくその日まで、輝き続けるのだろうか。
私は、再び出会うことのできなかったあの絵を探しつつ、
アートの持つ力について、考えている。
When I first came to this land, I felt breathing pain in my chest.
The proximity of the sea surface that flooding many times a year further made me uneasy.
Still, I wanted to experience the history of this city.
At that time, I could not forget the piece of painting I met on the street.
A scene of New York painted by an unknown artist.
I absolutely wanted it but it was not a price we could buy.
I think that why I wanted to stay here on this trip.
Perhaps I wanted to confirm the existence of art that shaking my mind once again.
"The city of water" created by Italians who escaped Germanic people in the 5th century.
It is the city where the subsidence gradually gets year by year and disappears
after several hundred years.
People are fascinated there, and everybody wants to see their beauty.
We are living desperately until the day that one day we will end our life.
I wonder if the city of Venice will continue to shine until the day it will sink.
I will look for that picture that I could not encounter again,
I am thinking about the power of art.
