ちょうど1年前、デザイナーと一緒にニューヨークの展示会に潜入した。
日本での大きな展示会に出展した後の数年間で、
日本のFUGA市場が大きく拡大された実績もある。
でも、世界のファッション市場での反応については、ほぼ未経験だった。
準備する時間は十分にあったはずなのに、
主催者からのゴーサインが出るまで動くこともできず、
結局いつも通りのバタバタで。
英語版のホームページが完成しただけで、燃え尽きそうだった。
展示会当日、改めて会場の大きさに呆然とした。
言葉の分からない外国の世界に、ポツンと放り出されたような気持ちになった。
デザイナー本人は、きっともっと心細かっただろうけれど、
私達は、本当によく喋って、本当によく笑っていた。
幸いなことに、両隣の出展者が些細なことまで懇切丁寧に教えてくれて、
ファッションビジネスもアートも、結局のところ、
人とのコミュニケーション術がすべてだと、改めて学んだ。
出会ってから長い長い年月が経過して、
ようやく彼女の想いが形になっていく様子を、
こうして近くで見守っていられるのが、心底嬉しい。
初めて海外バイヤーから大きなオーダーが入って、抱き合って喜んだ日のことを、
次のステージでもきっと笑って話している自分達を、想像している。
目標は一歩ずつ、きっと叶っていくから。

We should have had enough time to prepare,

After all we took actions at last minute as usual.
Just when the English version of the website was completed, we seemed to be burn out.
On the day of the exhibition, I was stunned by the size of the venue again.
I felt like I was thrown out away in a foreign world where I cannot understand words.
The designer herself was surely more attentive,
But we talked quite often and were laughing very well.
Fortunately, the exhibitors on both sides gently and carefully taught us trivial things.
Fashion business and art, after all,
I learned again that communication skills with people are all.
A long long time passed since we met,
I can see how her thoughts become products,
I am happy to be able to watch closely in this way.
On the next stage, I also imagine ourselves that we are laughing and talking
about the day when the big order from the buyer entered for the first time.
The goal will surely come true one step at a time.
