大学時代に就職を考えた時、人を幸せにするホスピタリティー論を
自分なりに極めたいと思っていた。
美学美術史専攻の私には「海外でたくさんの美術館に行ける」という
やや不純な動機も非常に魅力的であった。
そして乗務員として世界中を飛び回っていた頃、師匠に言われた。
「とにかく世界中で「美しい」といわれているものを、たくさん見てきなさい。
今は分からなくとも、美しいものに囲まれていると、いつか本当に美しいものを
きちんと認識できる眼が育つから」
私はフライト乗務を終えると、当時一人暮らしをしていた世田谷の
アパートから、代々木にある西山吉勝氏のアトリエまで、ローラーブレードを
履いたまま駆けっていった。
お客様との素敵な出会い、滞在中におこったアクシデント、
上司に怒られたり褒められたり。
話したいことが盛りだくさんで、自分の作品を作る手は一向に進まない。
師匠は終始穏やかな笑顔で、私の話を真面目に聞いてくれて、
時に的確な言葉で、大人の意見を授けてくれた。
西山氏が生み出す「山吉」の作品を、私は語り尽くすことができない。
「西洋を越えた和がある
圧倒的な美しさは沈黙を強いる
山吉は語らない
極めた作品が語りかける
宝石による芸術だ。」
近年、パリやニューヨークでも展示会を開催し、世界中が注目する
「山吉」の世界。
そう、まさに作品自体が語りかけてくれるから、手に取った瞬間に人は
その感性を研ぎ澄まされる魔法をかけられてしまうのだ。
余計な説明はいらない。
私が世界中を渡り歩いて、目にしたどんな芸術作品よりも美しい、
美の極みがそこにある。
師匠、あれから二十年以上の年月が経過して、私の鑑識眼も少しは
育まれたでしょうか。
師匠、日本人の誇れる美の極みを、これからもどんどん生み出してください。
師匠、この美の極みを世界中に伝えるためにも、私はもう少しここで
踏ん張りたいと思います。

hospitality to make people happy.

When I finish my duty of flight, I run to go to the studio of Mr. Yoshikatsu
Nishiyama in Yoyogi, wearing roller blades, from the apartment in Setagaya
where I had been living alone.
My hands to make design did not proceed at all, since I wanted to talk with
master to report what happened in a stay.
Master had a gentle smile from beginning to end, listened seriously, and he
sometimes gave me the opinions of the adults in the precise words.
I can not tell his work of "Yamayoshi" produced by Mr.Nishiyama.
"No words are necessary.
The exceptional works speak directly to the heart.
They will be treasured for generations.
In recent years, He had exhibitions in Paris and New York, people paid
attention to the world of "Yamayoshi" all over the world.
Since his work speaks itself, people would have well-honed sensibilities
Enchanted that the moment when they pick it up.

There is more beautiful than any work of art all over the world that I saw,
the ultimate of beauty.

of Japan.
