10年以上前、師匠の英文記事を書いた。
もっとたくさん書く機会はあったはずなのに、
あまりにも尊大で、あまりにも近くて、
あまりにも厳しくて、あまりにも優しくて。
ジャパニズムの最高峰を、私ごときの言葉では表現しきれなかった。

東京にそんな場所があることを知っている人はごく限られていたけれど、
代々木のアトリエには、本当にいろんな人が出入りしていた。
彼にしかできないデザインやお直しがあったし、
世界中の時計やライター、そして芸術のことを、夜通し話せた。
麻雀仲間はみんな、ここでは記せない、いわゆる著名人が多かった。
師匠はアメリカが大好きで、若い頃に留学していたLAの話をよくしていた。
私はたいして興味がないのに、コルベットとかキャディラックとか、
車の話をたくさん聞かされた。
ポルシェ好きな仲間の会合の時に、車のタイピンを作ろうと提案して、
たくさん車のデッサンをした。
エンジンとかモーターとか、難しい構造は分からないけれど、
美しい流れを作る線については、たくさん学んだ。
そして、人を幸せにする方法について、もっとたくさん学んだ。
私の周囲にはそんなタイピンを使う人はいないかなと、
贈り先もないままに仕舞い込んでいたタイピンを取り出してみた。
あの頃完璧と思っていた流線が少し不恰好に見えた。
そうやって、人の鑑識眼もセンスも、少しずつ変わっていく。
でも、打算なしに愛を持って繋いだ人々との関係は、
永遠であると信じたい。
代々木のアトリエは、永遠に私達の心に刻まれる。

studied when he was twenties.
Even though I was not interested much, I was heard a lot of talk about the car
like Corvette, Cadillac.
For the Porsche favorite companion, we suggested to make tiepins of the car.
We drew a lot of vehicles.
I didn't know the engine motors and difficult structure,
But I learned a lot for the line to make a beautiful flow.
And I learned a lot more how make people happy.
I did not know any friends who liked that tiepin at that time.
I looked for the tiepin that I left in my closet.
I thought its streamline was perfection those days, but it was not.
Discerning eye and sense of people change little by little.
But I want to believe the relationship between the people who are connected
with a love without calculative is eternal.
The atelier of Yoyogi will be engraved in our hearts forever.
