このところのニューヨークは天候が不安定。
突然真夏のように暑くなったり、台風のような大雨が降ったり。
雨や曇りマークの天気予報が続くと、私は気持ちも塞ぎがちなのに、
街にいるニューヨーカーは実に元気。
コートのいらない季節を、誰よりも早く長く楽しもうと、
とにかくみんな、外に出る。
肌寒くても、Tシャツ姿とサンダルで街を歩き、
サイドウォークカフェを開放する店が、どんどん歩道に進出してくる。
この季節は毎週末、マンハッタンのどこかでストリートフェアが開催されている。
日系店舗が１ブロックを占拠して、フェアを盛り上げることもある。
おにぎり、ラーメン、焼きそばと、日本の屋台が立ち並ぶ前には、
日本贔屓のアメリカ人が列をなし、
日系バンドのステージ前も、多くのニューヨーカーが足を留めていた。
世界のどこであっても、祭りは人々を笑顔にさせる。
The weather is unstable in New York these days.
