幼少の頃、授業参観が苦手だった。
親に自分の学校生活を見られるのは照れ臭かったし、
友達のお母さんに声をかけられるのも苦手だった。
米国では毎月授業参観があって、子供達は「見られる」ことに慣れている。
「誉めて伸ばす」教育のなか、どの子も積極的に手を挙げる。
間違うことを恐れずに発言する勇気に感服する。
日本語補習校の授業参観になると、一気に雰囲気が変わる。
教師主導の授業の中で、もじもじする子供達が微笑ましい。
彼らにとって、日本語は外国語でしかないけれど、
家族や友達と会話するより、さらに上のレベルが求められる。
間違った発言をした時に、教師がそれをどうフォローするか。
なぜその意見に行き着いたのかを、とことん聞いてあげる根気。
社会生活でも、きっとそれは同じこと。
人を信頼できる心を育てることが、明るい未来を育てることだから。
