東京都立高校の学区制が廃止されて久しい。
かつては学力順で学校を選ぶことがメインだったけれど、
今の都立高校は、個性豊かなカリキュラムを売りにしている学校が多い。
母校の都立西高校では、ほかの都立高に先駆けて「米国研修」を実施しており、
そのプログラムに惹かれて、高校を選んだという生徒も少なくない。
今年もまた現役西高生40名がニューヨークにやってきた。
校内で競争率２倍以上の選考をくぐり抜けてきた精鋭たち。
ボストンで、ハーバード大学やマサチューセッツ工科大学での研修を受け、
最後に２泊だけ寄るニューヨークは、いわば御褒美のようなもの。
ニューヨークに在住するOB/OGとの交流会も兼ねての定例会合。
上は80歳の大先輩から、下は16歳の高校一年生まで、総勢52名が大集合。
彼らが物怖じもせずに、しっかりとした英語を喋ることに正直驚きながら、
自らの16歳の頃を思い出す。
ティーンエイジャーは、まさに青春の入り口。
二度と帰らぬ日を懐かしむよりも、もっと先を楽しもうと心に刻む。
It has been a long time since the school district system of Tokyo Metropolitan High School was abolished.
In the past, it was main to choose a school in order of academic ability, but
Today's metropolitan high schools have many schools having unique curriculums.
In the Nishi high school of the alma mater, "US training" is conducted ahead of other metropolitan high schools,
There are many students who are attracted to the program and chose Nishi high school.
This year too, 40 active Nishi High School students came to New York.
Elites who have passed through more than twice the competition in the school.
In Boston, they received training at Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
New York, which lasts only 2 nights, was like a reward.
Regular meeting also serving as an exchange meeting with OB / OG who live in New York.
A total of 52 people from the upper 80-year-old seniors to the lower 16-year-old high school first graders gathered together.
I was being honestly surprised that they spoke good English without being nervous.
I remember my own age of sixteen.
It was the period of teenagers, just the entrance to youth.
Rather than remember the day I will never return, I will keep in mind to enjoy the future even more.
OB/OGの皆様、社会人から大学院生まで、世代はバラバラ。
