娘と歩いてきた道のりを、娘の周囲の人に英語で伝えたいと思ってから、
ずいぶんと長い歳月が経過した。
ただ英訳するのではなく、米国の文化的背景に合わせて、内容をローカライズすることが、
本当の意味での翻訳なのだと、私自身がたくさん学んだ。
行間に含まれたニュアンスを英語でどう伝えるか。
大手の出版社では取り扱ってくれないような、細かい注釈が必要だった。
翻訳のプロ３人とチェッカーが入り、チームとして稼働した集大成。
そんななかでも、日々の生活は続いていて、毎日のように闇がやってくる。
翻訳のプロセスでも、泣きたくなるストーリーが満載だった。
終わってみて。
まず、ずっと遠くから応援してくれている人たちに、報告したいと思った。
４月半ば、都内某所。東京での報告会。
会場に駆けつけてくれた方の大部分が、いわゆる「英語使い」ではなく、
「見守ってくださっている友人」であった。
英語で本を読むことよりも、ただ応援したいと集まってくれたことが、
何よりも嬉しかった。
大切な友人たちが受け止めてくれていることが、今でも一番の救い。

It's been a long time since I wanted to share my journey with my daughter with the people around her in the U.S.
It is not just translating into English but localizing the content to fit the cultural background of the United States.
These years, I have learned a lot about the true meaning of a translation.
How do you convey the nuances between the lines in English?
We needed detailed annotations that the big publishers would not handle.
This book, "Born(e)" is the culmination of working as a team with three translation professionals and a checker.
Even in the midst of all this, daily life goes on, and darkness comes every day.
The translation process was also full of stories that made me want to cry.
When it was over.
First of all, I wanted to report to the people who have been supporting me from afar for a long time.
Mid-April, it was a debriefing session in Tokyo.
Most of the people who came to the meeting were not so-called "English users" but "friends who watched over me.
I was more than happy that they came to support me rather than read my English book.
It is still the most extraordinary relief to me to know that my dear friends are supporting me.
Ms. Kaoru Odajima played a significant role in facilitating the event on behalf of the supporting members of Seri's Gift Association.
Ms. Michiyo Namba has excellent moderating skills and is always there for me.
